Name: Golden Gate Bridge
Rating: 4-stars
Opened on May 27, 1937 the Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridgemain span in the world at 4,200 feet and the tallest suspension towers at 692 feet. The weight of the road is hung from two cables made of 27,572 strands of wire suspended from two towers. There is over 80,000 miles of cable used in total. Its color is International orange designed to make it more visible in fog and is part of what makes this bridge so popular. The nearby Bay Bridge is actually larger then the Golden Gate but is widely ignored in comparison to its more famous neighbor.
We biked across the bridge's 1.7 miles of roadway to Vista Overlook where we took more pictures before making the return trip. Unfortunately it wasn't easy given the crowds and that half the pedestrian/bike access was shut down. We were all forced to use the city side of the bridge.
