Located at the original location of Ghirardelli’s Factory is the Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop.  This iconic brand has a rich history and has been making chocolate since 1852.  With 160 years of experience one would expect their chocolate to be amazing and it certainly was.
After a long day biking around San Francisco my buddies and I were craving an ice cream. When we arrived the line was out the door but moving quickly. We all ordered the World Famous Hot Fudge Sunday in a Chocolate Waffle Bowl.  Once you order at the counter it’s a free for all to find a table to sit. We got lucky and found one easily. We placed our placard on the table and got a few glasses of water from  the self service bubbler while we waited.
A very nice waitress came to our table but unfortunately the order was wrong. Somehow the order went in incorrectly and was served in a glass bowl rather than the chocolate waffle bowl. Wanting what everyone else had we send them back. As the waitress turned she got bumped by another employee and two of the three sundae’s hit the floor in a spectacular crash. Of course I felt terrible not only for her but for the wasted ice cream.
She returned a few minutes later with new sundae’s as we had ordered. She did show us that the person at the counter had clearly put them in the computer incorrectly but she gave us what we wanted without any other mention of it.
The sundae’s were huge and we could easily have shared one but how often do you get to have a sundae in the original factory in San Francisco. The ice cream was rich and creamy and the hot fudge was smooth and silky. I managed to finish off the ice cream and hot fudge but when it came to eating the chocolate waffle bowl I wasn’t able to finish.  As good at it was I am glad I don’t live to close because I’d be huge.
